The day before several days was March 26th. Twenty three years ago, Hai Zi, a very famous poet, committed suicide on the very day, leaving us the forever recall.
Hai Zi is just a pen name of Zha Haisheng. He was born in a traditional agricultural family in Anhui Province of China in 1964. In 1979, when he was just 15 years old, he was enrolled in Peking University, one of the best two universities in China. Then after graduation, he taught students in a university. Although he had continuing writing poems for nearly seven years until he was dead, his poems were not well known by common readers. He ended up his glorious life on his coming 25th birthday.
By lying on the path of a train in Shanhaiguan which is the start of the Great Wall, Hai Zi died with a bag containing four books, Bible, Walden, Kon-Tiki and a book of stories by Joseph Conrad. After his death, his poem spread very fast and had a great influence on people especially the young.
Hai Zi was the most famous poet in China after the Cultural Revolution. Even after this tough period, Chinese literature suffered a lot. Public had little trust in literature, including poems. So there was no doubt that his poems were not famous when he was living. Many factors leaded to his death. Whatever cause is the most, the death of Hai Zi became a symbol. It seems that only Hai Zi had the privilege to commit suicide. What the topics of his poems are youth, life and dream.
His poems are widely spread and have a huge effect on teenagers. Let me use one of his most famous poems to end up my blog and also to express my great admiration to this poet.
Facing the sea with spring blossoms
From tomorrow on, I will be a happy man;
Grooming, chopping, and traveling all over the world.
From tomorrow on, I will care foodstuff and vegetable,
living in a house towards the sea,
with spring blossoms.
From tomorrow on,
write to each of my dear ones,
telling them of my happiness,
what the lightening of happiness has told me,
I will spread it to each of them.
Give a warm name for every river and every mountain,
Strangers, I will also wish you happy.
May you have a brilliant future!

ReplyDeleteI always think that the heart of a poet must be as pure and sensitive as a child, or he cannot write down so beautiful poems. However, having a childish heart means that he is fragile as well. It is quite a pity that our society don't and can't protect these talents.
ReplyDeletehe chose death
ReplyDeleteto accomplish his spirit
leaving his mom
standing alone on the hill
waited him coming back forever
even though
the mother know
he will never come back
