Classic Eternity

Classic Eternity

For the third time, Titanic conquered me from the bottom of my heart, on Good Friday, on my mum’s birthday.

There are always new reflections reviewing a classic movie. I think this phenomenon is more evident compared with reviewing classic literature works. Movies from last century, like Titanic, like The Matrix, still trigger vibes among us. These are called genuinely classic that go through centuries. Life, people, reflections are changing, while masterpieces are always the same there. Glamour is reflected from people’s thoughts.

James Cameron is an extraordinary genius. To be more exact, he is a fanatic to combine movie making with high technology, with novel creativity like Christopher Nolan and acumen in dealing with commercial issues like Steven Spielberg. There is no wonder that the name James Cameron is always, customarily related to tremendous prosperity every time it appears.  It does not appear frequently actually, by contrast. It is impossible to witness the grandeur of masterpieces every day.

About one week or two ago, I discussed with Zhang Chi what it would be like to see more mature Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet flying on Titanic, for we were neither sure whether the new Titanic 3-dimensional had been refined just technically. Anyway, it was fantastic to see the young Leonardo again on a real screen as well. Winslet was more   skilful and glamorous actually compared with my feelings before, but to tell the truth, I haven’t watched her works a lot in recent years. Apart from the actor and actress, the most impressive part was undoubtedly the portraits of human nature when it comes to survival and death, which in the new movie, brought splendid effects to audience in 3-dimensional background. It would be human beings’ glorious achievements if high technology could always play such a crucial role as catalyst to fortify the effects of art.

Whenever the whole world witnesses a masterpiece showing up, people make comments, write books, write columns, write blogs, make documentaries, do interviews, or whatever, just exactly like that people all appear to be experienced, passionate football fans no matter whether they have watched the so-called football matches for 3 days or their whole life, when World Cups come. That is nothing to say, in fact. Entertainment is supposed to bring joy to the whole universe as how it appeared and how generous authentic adepts should learn to be. I am here, precisely writing a blog, to say that appreciation, especially when it comes to masterpieces, seems to be more respectful and serious, and may bring more inspiration if one focuses on appreciation itself, and unique contemplation and reflection. There is no need to say anything more, because everything here is within one’s own heart, within the dialogue between artist and appreciator directly, just like Titanic, the classic eternity.
