Reflect on “Beijing Love Story”

Beijing Love Story is one of China's largest modern drama productions. The idea for Beijing Love Story was first formed during the filming of Soldier Sortie, and is written and directed by one of its actors, Chen Sicheng.

I usually don't enjoy watching modern-day dramas that much, but this one has definitely caught my interest. This is not an idol drama; it is more depicting real life and society. Just like the theme song "Goodbye my youth", this drama described the trials and tribulations of the lives of youth and their growth in modern-day Beijing. The most important conflict in this drama I think is the choice between pure love and bread (money and other material basis). It shows the cruelty of the world to our youth and arouses an echo in our hearts. I used to believe in pure love in the world, but this drama made me hesitate. After watched the drama, what confused me most is which one I will choose if I am facing the choice.

The most impressive spot for me in this drama is a choice of one character. He comes from a very poor family and wants to find his place in Beijing. He is diligent and talented, but he is still a petty clerk in a small company after 3 years he came to Beijing. One day he was facing a choice: lost his job and all his savings which invested in a house or left his girlfriend, but got a high position in a big company and save his house. He chose the latter, because he had to believe in the reality which the cruel world told him that love without bread is not called love.

However, the key point is not which one you chose but your growth. Despite the pain of growth is engraved, you cannot refuse. The only thing you can do is to keep sober. Goodbye my past. Goodbye my youth.
