Chang Qizhong-Zuo Mingxue-The Maltese Goddess

This week, I finished a book called The Maltese Goddess. As I said in the oral report, when I came to central library, I wanted to find a book which was not so thick and easy to hold in my hand. Then I came across this book, it is not very thick. I took it from the bookshelf, then I found the words in the book cover very attractive: An archaeological mystery—some things are better left covered up.
“It must be very interesting!” I thought. In fact, I was very interested in the archaeology.
After I came back, I opened and read it immediately without hesitation. As I thought previously, it was very interesting.
At the beginning chapter, it told the background: Lara is thrilled to be on the island of Malta, and ancient land of Goddess worship ad legendary artifacts. She’s there to personally furnish the home of Toronto’s Martin Galea, whose reputation as an architect is rivaled only by his reputation as a womanizer.
Then the exciting plot begins, at the end of the chapter two, Lara found the figure of a man who dressed in dark clothes and hooded, standing still at the end of the yard. At the end of the chapter three, Lara found a dead cat in the yard. Then, in the following chapters, her car was out of control, but after checked, nothing was wrong; the owner of the house, Mr. Galea, his body was put into a chest which was transported from Canada to Malta.
What an interesting plot was! I was very wonders what happened after those strange things occurred.
However, after I finished the rest contents, I felt every disappointed. As I said just now, it is said in the cover of the book that an archaeological mystery, even the picture in the book cover shows that it is an archaeological story. Actually, it talks nothing about archaeology. It was a detective novel…
So sad…
Those things which looked supernatural were made by some people who wanted Lara to leave from the house. Of course, there were some secrets in that house. And Mr. Galea was killed by his wife, the truth was discovered at the end of the book through the letter which was written by Mrs. Galea to Lara.
So sad…
The ending was not wonderful at all. But the good thing is the language of the book is not difficult to understand.
