Will Jeremy Lin represent China?
Nowadays, Jeremy Lin is so famous in NBA that almost everyone can recognize him. However, he used to be a relatively unimportant player who seldom had a chance to show himself and nobody cared about him. Now, things really changes,not only American but Chinese concentrate on Lin,and Xinhua News, the official press agency of the Chinese government, even wrote an article to suggest the talent star playing for China.
Many Chinese are longing for his joining Chinese national men’s basketball team for his father was born in China,while the Taiwanese also assert that Lin can only play for Taiwan since his parents are both Taiwanese. As a matter of fact, Lin was born in America, grew up in America and studied in America. In my opinion, As an American, he has nothing to do with China or Taiwan.
Actually, America, a country consists of immigrants, has many examples as Lin, but seldom do a country claim that some famous immigrants in America are its proud and need to represent it only because their parents or ancestors are from this country. For example, do you think it is possible for Washington to represent England? Absolutely it is impossible! Everyone knows that he is an American, so it is America rather than England that he should pledge loyalty to. It is just the same thing when it happened to an American Born Chinese, and it goes without saying that Lin should represent America instead of either China or Taiwan.
However, Lin is still likely to join Chinese Basketball team though he should not do it. If he says he wants to play for China, he will gain millions of audience which he will never gain in American. But if he becomes a Chinese, he will give up US citizenship which is very important and valuable.And he will go to a country which he does not attach too much importance on. Furthermore, he will lose most of the supports from America and not be welcomed to NBA any more. In my opinion, he will not take such a risk.
All in all, it finally depends on his own choice. Whatever his choice is, I will not feel surprised.
I think it is acceptable that Jeremy Lin represents China to play basketball in the Olympict though I do not like him so much.Someone do not welcome Lin because he is an American, all the skills he has learned are in America, he is not a good palyer trained by chinese so he cannot represent China.I think it is prejudice because Yao Ming also becomes an superstar by the NBA rather than china.LIN is also a chinese descendant, if he really wants to win honor for the country where his ancestor lived, I think we can give him a chance.
ReplyDeleteI think we should concern more about our players instead of Lin. If Lin joins China Team, it is really good. But if he does not want to come, it is ok, because he is not a Chinese.
ReplyDeleteNo matter whether Lin will join China basketball team, there are still many problems in our sports management. We should pay attention to the solution instead of other's success. I really astioned by all the Chinese because we all love our motherland.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Zhang Zhan. Anyhow Lin is an American born in America, but I think if he wants to join CBA there would be no obstacles. So it depends on himself. However, seeing his grandmother's behalves I do not think he will join CBA.

ReplyDeleteActually i don't think he will... Even if he does, i don't think i can really regard him as a part of the Chinese team. Just because of his race, so he join the PRC team?
