Studying Abroad

Over the last several years, along with the rapid development of economy, an increasing number of parents have been sending their children to study abroad. Not everyone has the chance of studying abroad. Now that I got this chance, I could give an objective voice of the benefits and drawbacks caused by studying overseas.

The first benefit is obvious. Studying abroad could broaden our horizons and enrich our experiences. As I just mentioned, not everyone is able to study in another country. Studying overseas, to some degree, is a god-given chance for us to realize a distinct life-style as well as improve our worldviews. The knowledge of social customs acquired in the other country helps us to become more open-minded. Next, we get chances to live by ourselves instead of relying on our parents. Parents always make some decisions for their children in their homeland, while when we live abroad, almost every decision should be made by ourselves. This kind of change could make us more decisive and mature. What is more, it is good for us to enable our second language to flourish into proficiency and, possibly, learn a third language. Lastly, some overseas universities truly have better facilities than the universities on our homeland. Take my friend as an example. One of my roommates, a nineteen-year-old United States’ college boy, told me that he never imagined that he could get chances to do so many unbelievable experiments with the help of so many sophisticated machines. He also told me that when he was in china, this kind of things get 0 chance to happen.

Every coin has two sides. Studying abroad may also cause some problems. First of all, living far away from home, students will suffer from homesickness and loneliness. Secondly, some students who never successfully control themselves could get in a wrong way without parents’ supervision.

It is hard to discuss whether it is a better choice or not. But, if we have a strong heart, if we have the ability of self-control, if we have our own goals and dreams and always stick to it, studying abroad could be a right choice for us. As for me, I think I have made a good choice.
